  • The flight was carrying about 100 passengers when the captain made the call
  • Only a third of passengers were able to get on another flight

More than one hundred Virgin passengers have kicked up a stink after being stranded at Perth airport when a ‘strange smell’ forced their flight to turn around.

The flight took off from Perth on Saturday afternoon and was just over an hour into the flight to Adelaide, when crew reported a strange smell at the back of the plane.

A cautious captain made the call to turn the flight around for the safety of crew and passengers.

A Virgin Australia spokesman told Daily Mail Australia the 2.50pm flight from Perth to Adelaide was meant to be a two hour and 50 minute trip.

‘The aircraft turned back as a precautionary measure,’ he said.

‘The engineers have inspected the aircraft and it’s back in service today.’

Two-thirds of the passengers were left stranded with only a third of the passengers managing to get on another flight.

Perth Airport told Daily Mail Australia they can’t comment on the incident.
