David Warner and Steve Smith are handed 12-month bans by Cricket Australia

David Warner and Steve Smith have been handed year-long bans by Cricket Australia for cheating against South Africa. 

The pair were sanctioned for their roles in the ball tampering scandal, which has embroiled Australian cricket since Saturday. 

Smith and Warner were stood down as captain and vice captain after they ordered Cameron Bancroft to ball tamper with a piece of yellow tape during the third Test against South Africa. 

The pair were sent home along with Bancroft on Wednesday, with CA chief exectuive James Sutherland telling reporters the trio face ‘significant sanctions’. 

By Wednesday night, Smtih and Warner were slapped with the 12-month bans.
