- Chelsea are eight points off fourth-placed Tottenham with seven games to play
- It means Chelsea are set to miss out on Champions League football next season
- The club do not have a policy of wage cuts should they miss out on qualification
- Chelsea want to tie Eden Hazard down to a new deal worth £300,000-a-week
Chelsea players will not suffer pay-cuts for missing out on Champions League qualification.
While some of the Premier League’s top clubs protect themselves in the event that they do not qualify for Europe’s elite competition, the Blues have not adopted that policy.
The majority of their squad will stay on the same pay, even though last season’s champions currently sit fifth and now trail fourth-placed Tottenham by eight points.
The likes of (L-R) Cesar Azpilicueta, Alvaro Morata and Marcos Alonso will keep their wages
Eden Hazard is among those who would stay on £200,000 a week, though Chelsea still want to tie him down to a new £300,000 deal. The Belgian has so far stalled on signing the contract.
Hazard will likely to want to stay involved in Europe’s elite competition next season and it will give Real Madrid hope of enticing the 27-year-old to the Bernabeu this summer.
Chelsea’s last chance of silverware this season is the FA Cup and they face Southampton in the semi-finals. Their players would receive bonuses for winning the competition.
As it stands, Antonio Conte’s side are heading for the Europa League, though the Italian is unlikely to be in charge next season regardless.
