Samatha Armytage slams MKR ‘bullying’ scandal as ‘vile’

It was My Kitchen Rules’ most explosive episode of all-time, with Sonya and Hadil sensationally getting kicked off the show for ‘bullying’ the other teams.

And in the wake of the scandal, which aired on Channel Seven on Wednesday night, Samantha Armytage has weighed in.

During a Sunrise interview with contestants Emma and Jess – who copped much of the abuse from their rivals – Samantha described the scandal as ‘vile’.

Samantha took a strong stance from the start of the interview, telling Emma and Jess: ‘Look, it was very hard to watch.

‘We have a firm anti-bullying campaign going on on Sunrise. And we’re getting a lot of feedback from our viewers that this was outright bullying by adults on prime time television.’

She continued: ‘Let’s not forget: this is a cooking show. It disintegrated into a pretty vile situation.’

Emma and Jess appeared sheepish about their role in the dramatic confrontation and apologised profusely to Samantha and co-host David ‘Kochie’ Koch.

‘It is not how you resolve any confrontation and it is embarrassing for us to look back on. We should not have engaged,’ Jess said.

Her sister Emma had similar thoughts about the blow-up, admitting that she should have taken herself away from the situation

‘I just think I should have walked away with Jess,’ Emma explained, referencing how her sister had stormed out after being subjected to continual insults from Hadil.

She added: ‘It is not a good look for anyone.’

This week on  MKR, controversial cooks Sonya and Hadil hurled personal attacks, callous taunts and shocking insults across the table at the other competitors.

Their behaviour reached unacceptable levels on Wednesday night, prompting judges Manu Feildel and Pete Evans to ask them to leave.

Manu stepped in, saying: ‘Enough! Things have got too out of hand, this is a cooking competition, and this behaviour is unacceptable. Sonya and Hadil, you are excused from the table!’
