Video filmed INSIDE HMP Hewell prison shows mutinous inmates

Shocking video footage has revealed mutinous inmates running riot at a prison as they attack one another and helpless guards.

Reportedly filmed inside HMP Hewell in Worcester, the video shows prisoners setting fire to toilet rolls and bedding, smashing up CCTV cameras and fighting one another.

The disturbance at the jail, which holds category A and B prisoners, had reportedly been brewing for several weeks after water taps were turned off.

Footage obtained by The Sun shows wings in the hands of criminals as guards wait for back-up.

A similar video which went viral in April shows HMP Hewell inmates throwing punches and wrestling.

And last July Tornado squads were sent to the prison after trouble broke out on one of its wings.

A handful of prisoners were refusing to follow prison officers’ orders and had been attempting to cause damage to the building.

Last week, Dawn Day was jailed for ten months after admitting trying to smuggle heroin and crack cocaine into the prison for her son after he was threatened by other inmates.

The 52-year-old tried to sneak the class A drugs into HMP Hewell after receiving ‘begging’ phone calls from her son, believing he was in danger from other criminals.

The jail, which opened in its current form in 2008, is made up of six wings – while there is a separate open prison called the Grange.

The main site which houses around 1,000 inmates – some of whom are category A remand prisoners – is surrounded by farmland.

In an inspection report published in January 2017 Hewell was described as ‘a prison with many challenges and areas of serious concern’.

Just days ago it was revealed Category B, C and D inmates at HMP Hewell were allowed to order items from Amazon and have them delivered direct to their cell doors.

Favourite goods included computer games, trainers, cosmetics and clothes.

Prison governors have also told officers to knock on doors before entering inmates’ cells as a ‘basic courtesy’.

Inmates were also to be referred to as ‘men’ and cells as ‘rooms’.

In April eight men and two women, all from the West Midlands, appeared in court accused of smuggling drugs into the prison.

The Prison Service has been contacted for comment.
