Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp urges supporters not to attack Roma team bus

Jurgen Klopp has urged Liverpool supporters to show Roma the ‘respect they deserve’ by avoiding a repeat of the shocking scenes that greeted Manchester City’s team bus before their Champions League quarter-final first leg earlier this month.

Liverpool were forced to make a grovelling apology after City’s team coach was targeted on the approach to Anfield with bottles, firecrackers, flares and other heavy objects.

Merseyside Police have vowed to crack down on any fan disturbances ahead of the semi-final showdown with Roma in light of the incidents that took place outside of the stadium before the City game.

Klopp insisted he still wants to see the same atmosphere on Tuesday night that spurred his side on to victory against Pep Guardiola’s side, but without the unnecessary behaviour.

‘I think that is pretty clear, in the stadium do it again, even better, out of the stadium please show the respect we have to show,’ he told reporters on Monday afternoon.

‘This is such a fantastic football club known for fantastic atmospheres around the world so we don’t need to do what we did against Manchester City.

‘Please show the respect they deserve and we are only opponents on the pitch. I really think this wonderful city, everyone knows how wonderful Rome is but not everyone knows how lovely the people of Liverpool are so let’s show for the 20 minutes before the game that face.’

Anfield provided an electric atmosphere as Liverpool ran rampant against City in the first leg

The first-leg win over City felt like a collective triumph after Anfield’s European din mustered up a rampant display from Liverpool to effectively book their spot in the last four.

The German boss is certain the fans will play their part again in what he hopes will be another memorable European night on Tuesday as they look to take a giant leap towards their first Champions League final since 2007.

He added: ‘They have created some of the most special atmospheres in world football. If it is possible to make it better than it was against Man City let’s try.

‘At the end for the boys on the pitch it is hard work but it is still much more fun when you do it at Anfield, I don’t have to say anything because I know they (the fans) will be perfect.’
