Husband and wife caught fly tipping told to pick up their mess

A man and a woman have been ordered to pick up their rubbish and take it home after they were caught fly tipping in a field by a passer-by.

The exchange was caught on camera by a man who was driving through the west Yorkshire area and witnessing the illegal act, stopped to tell them off.

The pair seemed to have dropped heaps of bricks into the ditch as well as a mound of rubbish that they later claimed wasn’t theirs before being challenged by the man and ordered to scoop it up as well.

It is not clear who the people in the video are but it was later posted on Facebook with users lauding the man’s actions to have the fly tipping pair clean up their mess.

The video starts as we see the couple standing at the open boot of their Toyota Previa next to a field during wet weather.

The man filming can be heard asking them what they’re doing before ordering them to pick the rubbish up, watching them all the while.

‘No, you’re not throwing all that out. Pick it back up. I’m watching you,’ he shouts.

‘I don’t give a f*** what you’re doing, put it in your car and take it home you scruffy f***ers.’

The man asks them why they didn’t throw the rubbish into the tip to which they reply that the tip was closed.

They continue to load their boot and apologize to him as he continues to berate them.

‘How would you like it if I throw a load of shit in your garden?’, he shouts as he gets out of the car to inspect the ditch.

We then see a heap of rubbish on the grass which the couple deny is theirs but they are proven to be lying as the pile is dry despite it being rainy weather.

He then tells them to scoop up the rubbish using their hands and put it back into their boot.

One of them asks if the land belongs to him to which he replies: ‘It doesn’t matter, it’s ‘f**ing disgusting and illegal.’

Since May 2016, councils in England have been able to issue separate fines of up to £400 for small scale fly-tipping offences.

56,000 fixed penalties were given out in the 12 months after the fines were brought in.

According to the National Fly-Tipping Prevention Group, financial gains or savings are the main motivations for fly-tipping.

Others factors include ‘laziness and an attitude that someone else will clear up the waste’.

The video was posted to Facebook yesterday and has been watched over 1.7 million times with social media users commending the man for making the pair clean up their rubbish.

One captioned the video: ‘Get this shared around. Good on the fella who made them pick it all up’.

Another said: ‘Respect to whoever is on the phone cam.’

The incident has been reported to west Yorkshire police and is now being investigated.

The Department for the Environment and Rural Affairs have been contacted by Mail Online.
