The haunting message a young Australian victim sent his parents before his plane was shot down by a Russian missile has been revealed.
Jack O’Brien was killed when the Malaysian Airline flight MH17 was hit by a missile as it flew near the Ukraine border on July 14, 2014.
The 25-year-old Sydney man was on his way from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, along with 298 passengers, including 38 Australians.

Jack replied to a text message from his father, Jon O’Brien, where he described the Russians as being good people before he left the Eastern European country responsible for his death

The talented soccer player was taking part in a football tour during the last World Cup where he visited Iceland, Paris and Moscow before flying home.
Jack replied to a text message from his father, Jon O’Brien, where he described the Russians as being good people before he left the Eastern European country responsible for his death, Sydney Morning Herald reported.
‘Hi Jack, how are you liking Moscow and how have you found the Russians,’ Mr O’Brien wrote.
‘Moscow is an enormous city – Sydney times two. It’s an interesting place where people are friendlier that I thought they would be,’ Jack responded.

Some of Jack’s last emails were sent to his fellow soccer teammates asking where the next game was, the publication reported.

Mr O’Brien, who is responsible for sending a letter to people of Russia, revealed the chilling text messages in the lead up to the fourth anniversary of MH17.
The letter signed by the relatives of nine victims, including three Australians, was sent to Russian newspaper Noaya Gaxeta iin the lead up to the 2018 FIFA World Cup – an event which Jack loved.
The heartbroken father said the World Cup – an event his son celebrated – would now have a ‘different darker meaning’.
‘The irony is that the World Cup is being held in Russia … the World Cup is on and Jack isn’t here, there is something fundamentally wrong with the world,’ Mr O’Brien said.
