Trump will be the guest of honor at events benefiting endangered House Republicans on June 18, Politico reports. She’s making appearances in Los Angeles and Fresno at the invitation of House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy.
‘Ivanka developed a strong relationship with Leader McCarthy during their efforts to Pass the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and its Child Tax Credit provisions,’ a White House official said. ‘They also worked closely on Seta/Fosta legislation to combat online sex trafficking.’
The fundraisers feed into the a joint committee that McCarthy operates with Vice President Mike Pence called Protect the House.

McCarthy is likely to become speaker of the legislative body if Republicans hold onto Congress in the midterm elections this fall. The House’s current speaker, Paul Ryan, is retiring from politics at the end of his current term.
A senior adviser at the White House to her father, Ivanka, who finally received top-level security clearance this week after waiting 16 months for it, has traveled the country promoting the GOP’s tax cut plan, but the fundraisers with McCarthy are her first 2018 campaign events.
Her travel schedule is part of a broader shift in focus within the Trump administration to the upcoming elections. President Trump has also ramped up his activity, holding rallies this month in Indiana and Tennessee.
As McCarthy prepares to ascend to the House’s top leadership position, the California congressman has cozied up to the president, dining with him at his private property in Florida and regularly attending White House events.
Trump thanked the lawmaker profusely at a May 16 event on sanctuary cities for sticking by him on the issue of illegal immigration, even though his position is in opposition to many liberal Californians’.
The president called McCarthy a ‘special friend of mine’ and said ‘he is very, very popular.
‘And I just recently saw a poll of Kevin. I think the opposition might as well just go home, because Kevin, they love him out there and he’s done an incredible job. He’s brought it home,’ Trump said. ‘And we appreciate it, Kevin, the great job you’ve done for the country. Thank you very much.’

At the long White House event on curbing illegal immigration Trump also told him, ‘We want to thank you, Kevin. You have done an incredible job. You’re sort of going against the tide, but now the tide is sort of with us because you see it in the room.’
‘And, Kevin, thank you very much. You’re doing really great.’
The president said he believes McCarthy is the one to finally shepherd immigration reform through the House of Representatives during the event where he made his controversial comments about MS-13 gang members as ‘animals.’
‘You wouldn’t believe how bad these people are. These aren’t people. These are animals. And we’re taking them out of the country at a level and at a rate that’s never happened before. And because of the weak laws, they come in fast, we get them, we release them, we get them again, we bring them out. It’s crazy,’ Trump stated.
‘The dumbest laws — as I said before, the dumbest laws on immigration in the world. So we’re going to take care of it … We’re going to ask that man right there, because that man can do it. Right now he’s the most important man in the room. Kevin can do it.’
