PGA-winning golfer explains why girlfriend dodged kiss after victory

Looks can be deceiving, according to first-time PGA tour winner Aaron Wise, whose attempted celebratory kiss with his girlfriend went viral when she appeared to reject him.

The 21-year-old, who snagged the title of the AT&T Byron Nelson match in Dallas last Sunday tried to share his victory with girlfriend Reagan Trussell.

However, she appeared to hastily reject him, with the awkward exchange shown on live TV following an interview Wise had completed.

As they embraced one another and locked eyes, the golfer received nothing but a blank stare, when he moved in closer to her.

However, that non-kiss has now been explained by Wise, who told GolfDigest.com that Trussell had flown in as a ‘surprise’ for the event, and ‘hid around the golf course so I wouldn’t see her, and she just wanted to surprise me on the 18th green’.

Unfortunately, he went in for a kiss when ‘she was kind of telling me what she had to do… she didn’t even recognize it because she was too excited in the moment.

‘It’s definitely been made a lot of. It’s funny, we’re rolling with it.’

The pair have seemingly been dating for months, according to posts seen on the golfer's Instagram page

American Wise raked in a whopping $1,386,000 following his three-stroke victory over Australian golfer Marc Leishman.

The young golfer previously posted pictures of himself with the same girl on his Instagram page – which suggests the pair have been dating for several months and may be pretty serious.

Wise proudly wrote in a black and white picture post last July: ‘Can’t believe I get to call this girl mine.’

The snapshot showed Trussell smiling as he stood next to his girl and gave her a kiss on the forehead.

It seems Trussell is also a University of Oregon student athlete.

According to Trussell’s Facebook page, she is involved in the university’s acrobatics and tumbling team.

Twitter users this week chimed in on the conversation and shared their two cents about the cringeworthy live incident.

One Twitter user wrote: ‘She doesn’t owe him anything for winning a gold tournament… you guys have got to be kidding me with the BS about him making a ton of money and her not wanting to kiss him.’

Another said: ‘Pro golfers have been getting the shaft lately. What’s the deal?’

While one more added: ‘Grandma told her not to kiss before marriage.’
