A mouth-watering menu from Britain’s oldest Indian restaurant has been sold for £8,500.
The bill of fare includes more than 25 dishes from the Hindoostane Dinner And Hooka Smoking Club, which was opened by Dean Mahomed, a former captain in the East India Company, in London in 1810.
Delights include ‘chicken and lobster curries’, ‘pineapple pullaoo’ and a selection of breads, chutneys and dishes ‘too numerous for insertion’.
The handwritten list was sold last week by Jarndyce Antiquarian Books at the Rare Book Fair.
