Man interviewed on TV about body in creek is arrested for mother’s murder

When a body was found in the creek outside his home, Matthew Haverly told reporters he was convinced it would be someone from out of town.

Turns out, it was his own mother.

Hours later, Haverly was behind bars and charged with murder.

It was an incredible twist that all began when Patricia Haverly’s body was found in a creek in Wyalusing, Pennsylvania on Thursday night.

When a body was found in the creek outside his home, Matthew Haverly told reporters he was convinced it was from someone from out of town. Hours later, he was arrested for his mom’s murder

News vans flocked to the small rural town after a UPS driver spotted the body around 5.30pm.

And Haverly was happy to be interviewed, offering up theories of gang violence and expressing his shock that something like that could ever happen in his town.

‘I was driving out earlier… I saw all the state police out there, I was like “What’s going on?”‘ a seemingly baffled Haverly told WNEP.

‘Now I realize that’s what they were actually doing. I had no clue.’

Haverly theorized that the murder was ‘some kind of hit’.

‘Something went bad, and this is like a rural area, so they just wanted to plant the body somewhere else besides wherever the hell they were from,’ he said.

‘It would be like a place where people from the city would want to put a body, because most likely it wouldn’t be found.’

Haverly also expressed his sadness at the news that someone had been killed.

‘It’s sad to say that’s someone’s either daughter, mother, whatever, both, child,’ he said.

And Haverly even spoke about how he thought his mother would react to the discovery.

It was only after the interview that troopers, noting Haverly's own mention of his mother, decided they had enough evidence to charge him with murder

‘I’m guessing my mother, she would be concerned,’ he said. ‘Probably a lot of the other neighbors would be concerned.’
