The British designer previously spoke of her pride as she shared with WWD a sketch of the slinky halter neck gown Meghan, 36, wore to the evening reception at Frogmore House.
‘I am so proud and honored to have been chosen by the Duchess of Sussex to make her evening gown and represent British design,’ she told WWD.
‘It has truly been one of the most humbling moments of my career and I am so proud of all the team on this stunning sunny royal day.’
Close: Stella and Kylie looked like the best of friends as they cosied up in the store
Celebrity stylist Lucas Armitage told Femail that such a gown would probably cost around £80,000 for fabric, design and fittings.
Made from silk crepe, the halter neck gown was pure white just like Meghan’s £200,000 Givenchy wedding dress.
Although the neckline was modest, the backless number allowed Meghan to show off her toned shoulders and back, while the figure-hugging gown featured a dramatic fluted skirt.
She teamed the look with heels by Aquazurra made in silky satin, with nude mesh, with soles painted in baby blue.
Stella McCartney’s involvement with Meghan’s evening dress was also a closely guarded secret until the last moment.
Her name was mentioned as a contender to design Meghan’s bridal gown, but Ralph & Russo was the clear favourite with bookies slashing odds to 1/5.
In the end Meghan shocked everyone by stepping out in a bespoke gown by Givenchy estimated to have cost £200,000.
It’s no surprise, however, that the retired actress asked Stella to do the honours for her evening gown.
Her staunch stance against using fur and leather sits well with the animal lover’s principles, as well as her use of organic fabrics.
Meghan has championed the designer during her royal appearances, wearing a Stella McCartney caped dress to the Queen’s birthday celebrations at the Royal Albert Hall last month.
For a visit to Cardiff in January, Meghan wrapped up against the winter chill in one of the designer’s £1,350 tie detail coats.
