Homes have been evacuated tonight as firefighters tackle a serious blaze at a scrapyard in Wales.
Witnesses in Pontypridd say they are hearing ‘explosions’ as the fire is understood to have spread through the site’s car park.
Plumes of thick black smoke can be seen from up to ten miles away as locals are being warned to stay indoors. it is thought the blaze began just after 7pm.
The fire service received more than 50 ‘999’ calls about the fire.

Four fire engines are at the scene along with three water bowsers
South Wales Fire and Rescue said: ‘There’s a building on fire and black smoke in the area. We believe it’s in the area of a commercial premises – a auto body repair.
‘We currently have four rescue pumps, a fire engine and officers at the scene.’

Four fire engines have been sent from Pontypridd, Caerphilly, Abercynon and Whitchurch fire stations.
It is understood nobody was in the property at the time but the smoke is has the potential to cause inhalation problems.
