A young boy is lucky to be alive after walking out into the middle of a busy city road before an off duty police officer was able to prevent him from being struck.
Harrowing footage of the incident was captured on off-duty Victoria police officer Lewis Jordan’s dashcam in Rowville, 27km south east of Melbourne.
The footage shows the moment he was able to stop and get out of his car quick enough to prevent the boy from running further into traffic.

Mr Jordan said it was just lucky he had already slowed down after pillows had fallen from a ute in front of him on Ferntree Gully Road in Rowville, 27km south east of Melbourne
Mr Jordan said it was just lucky he had already slowed down after pillows had fallen from a ute in front of him on Ferntree Gully Road.
‘I don’t know, divine intervention of whatever you want to call it but those pillows falling of that truck ,causing me to slow down, if they hadn’t of fallen off I would have hit him at 80km an hour and it would have been a fatal for sure,’ he told 7 News.
The footage shows Mr Jordan slowing down as the pillows hit the road and just off to the side the blur of the young boy on the side of the road.

As Mr Jordan slows down, the boy attempts to run further out onto the road, however Mr Jordan”s slowing car manages to stop the boy in his tracks.
Mr Jordan is then seen running out to carry the child to safety.
Other motorists also stopped and called police before relatives of the young boy, thought to be two-years-old, were located at a nearby home.
