The severity of Australia’s domestic violence crisis has been highlighted in a shocking interactive map profiling victims and the circumstances of their death.
More than a thousand women and children have had their stories told in the nation-first memorial map, titled ‘Australian Femicide Map’, by The Red Heart Campaign.
The Google Map commemorates lives lost at the hands of domestic abuse and was designed with the aim of raising awareness and lobbying for change.

Michelle Petersen (pictured), her daughter Bella, 15, and eight-year-old son, are new features on the map after they were murdered in their home in Perth on the weekend
Among the plethora of casualties are teenagers Jack, 15, and Jennifer, 13, Edwards who were shot dead inside their West Pennant Hills home by their father John.
Edwards, 68, a financial planner, killed his children earlier this month before turning the gun on himself.
Perth mother Michelle Petersen, 48, her daughter Bella, 15, and son Rua, eight, were murdered on Sunday and feature as new additions to the map.
Teancum Vernon Petersen-Crofts, 19, faced court Monday, just a day after allegedly killing the trio at a home in Ellenbrook, in Perth’s north-east.

Map founder Sherele Moody, who has compiled photos and information for each victim, said the project was designed to ‘honour and remember those who deserved to live long and happy lives but were never given the chance’.
‘The map is an interactive memorial commemorating women and children who have lost their lives to violence,’ a description states.
‘We have chosen to give no start or end date for this ongoing collection of photographs and stories.’

Zooming in on the map, particularly in areas around Sydney and Melbourne, reveals hundreds of hearts, which when clicked on, tell the story of each victim.
Katrina Miles, 35, was murdered in her cottage with her four children Taye, 13, Rylan, 12, Ayre, 10, and Kadyn, eight, in their home near Margaret River in Western Australia’s South West.
Ms Miles’s father, Peter Miles, 61, is believed to have shot his family including wife Cynda, 58, before killing himself at his Osmington home.
