‘My beautiful baby girl’: Heartbroken mother pays emotional tribute to 13-year-old daughter Lucy McHugh after her body was found in a woodland

- He remains in custody and has also been arrested for sexual activity with a child
A heartbroken mother yesterday paid an emotional tribute to her 13-year-old daughter whose body was found in woodland.
Stacey White described Lucy McHugh as ‘my beautiful baby girl’ in a Facebook post, and added: ‘We’re all trying to come to terms with it slowly and just feel numb.’
She also shared a link to a fundraising webpage where well-wishers have pledged more than £2,000 towards the cost of Lucy’s funeral.

A 24-year-old man was arrested on Friday night on suspicion of murder and sexual activity with a child.
Grieving friends and relatives of Lucy posted dozens of messages on Miss White’s Facebook page.
One girl wrote: ‘Such a loss, she had a smile that lit up the room and I feel privileged to have known her and be able to call her a close friend. The brightest star in the sky, RIP angel.’

Lucy left her home in Southampton on Wednesday morning, but failed to return and was reported missing.
Her body was found early the next morning near Southampton Sports Centre.
Detective Superintendent Paul Barton, of Hampshire Police, said: ‘This is a tragic incident and our thoughts go out to Lucy’s family and friends at this terrible time.’
