Sydney Chiropractor hance limboro who claimed he could cure cancer is deregistered

A chiropractor who claimed his work could cure cancer has had his registration to practise cancelled after making the assertion in a series of articles last year.

It comes after Hance Limboro became the first person to be prosecuted by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency for misleading advertising.

The inquiry centred around a series of false articles on a website named Cancer Cure Sydney, which said chiropractic could heal cancerous cells.

Early last year, the articles saw Limboro face a $29,500 fine after recording 13 convictions in the Downing Centre Local Court in Sydney.

He had earlier pleaded guilty to the charges which had been filed by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency in 2016.

Among the unlawful articles was one titled ‘Chiropractic Treatment as a Cancer Cure’.

Following the convictions, the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal cancelled Limboro’s registration, calling his conduct ‘extremely unethical and unprofessional’.

‘It was from the outset a predatory business venture, not an unintentional failing through oversight or lack of attention to developing standards,’ it added.

Among the claims made on the now-defunct website were that ‘cancer is 100 per cent preventable’ and ‘by having a regular visit to a chiropractor, people can rest assured that they are prevented from having cancer’.

Another section read: ‘A natural cancer cure that most people choose nowadays is chiropractic treatment as it has no significant side effects and guarantees long-term relief’.

Before he was deregistered, Limboro also gained notoriety across the chiropractic industry through his pyramid scheme-like financial advice

In hour-long web-seminars, Limboro promises devotees the secrets to becoming a millionaires in under a decade.

‘Dr Hance Limboro teach chiropractors…how to accumulate over $1million in 7 to 10 years time and how to generate 10 to 20 percent per annum return tax free,’ one clip wrote.

At the tribunal Limboro argued that despite his guilty plea, he hadn’t ‘claimed to treat cancer in all of his patients’ and should still be able to practise as a chiropractor.

He also said he had paid a heavy price for ‘poor delegation and not checking the material because it was made available in the general public’.

Following the decision, Limboro is prohibited from providing any health service for two years.
