Netflix has released a dramatic trailer for Outlaw King – the historical drama starring Chris Pine as Scottish outlaw-turned-king Robert The Bruce.
The film – which is set for release in November on the streaming site – sees a bearded and gruff-looking Pine, world’s away from his iconic role as the clean-cut Captain Kirk in the Star Wars film franchise.
Based on the real-life – and lesser told – story of Robert’s battle to regain control of Scotland, the trailer sees him leaving his wife and child in order to lead a rebellion – which resulted in him becoming the King Of Scots.

The trailer opens with Robert’s family being questioned over his whereabouts. His wife [Florence Pugh] is being threatened by guards, who violently demand to know where her husband is.
His brother is hanged when he refuses to tell them, leaving Robert to exact revenge.
‘Revenge: it tears at the soul. But it can also be a weapon,’ is uttered, as Robert sits on the boat, looking out to sea.
‘I’m done with running. And I’m sick of hating. We must unite Scotland!’ he cries, before he launches into battle.

The real Robert the Bruce [later Robert I] was one of the most famous warriors of his generation, and eventually led a revolution in the First War of Scottish Independence against England.
He was able to regain Scotland’s place as an independent country and is today revered as a national hero.
At the time, the King of England, Edward I, had a price on his head. In the trailer, he is heard saying: ‘Any man or woman who gives shelter to him or his ranks will be executed without trial.’
But a defiant Robert declares: ‘We will take the land back castle by castle.’
He adds: ‘I don’t care if you do it for God, country or family. I do not care, as long as you fight.’
What follows is a bloody montage of Pine leading his men to battle – throwing axes at enemies on horseback, battling throngs of English soldiers and reuniting with his wife.
Hunky actor Pine is seen on horseback alongside the likes of Avengers star Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the medieval drama.
Much of it was shot, over the course of 2017, at Glasgow Cathedral. The 800-year-old building was one of a number of historic locations used for filming across Scotland.
The production first started filming in August last year in Linlithgow, West Lothian.
