A man got the shock of a lifetime when he opened his Facebook to find a grinning selfie from officers who found his phone after he dropped it in a police chase.

Four bobbies from Humberside Police posted the cheeky snap on Rian Kennington’s Facebook page at 2.39am on Tuesday.

The post includes a caption telling Mr Kennington, 23, that if he wants his phone back he will have to come and collect it from Scunthorpe police station.

It adds: ‘What’s up Rian, you lost your phone running 100mph from us yesterday.

It is currently unknown why Mr Kennington was involved in the incident with police and whether or not he has been in contact with officers this morning.

Police forces across the country have increased their social media presence in recent years, with an onus on light-hearted banter.

In March, two officers posed for a similar selfie in front of a flipped car which had careered off the road in icy conditions.

The post was criticised by some online after it was discovered that the mother of the woman who crashed only found out about the incident due to the image being shared on Twitter.
