Cardiff restaurant tweets ‘worried cow’ to promote it’s steak night

A restaurant has apologised after posting a photo of ‘worried’ cow Daisy ahead of a new steak night.

Twenty Nine Park Place, in Cardiff city centre,  was called out on Twitter for the ‘offensive’ tweet by a user called That Cardiff Girl – who is a meat eater herself.

The tweet, which has now been deleted, was originally posted on Wednesday.

It featured a picture of a cow and the restaurant’s steak night menu, with the caption ‘Daisy is a little bit worried! Why? It’s steak night!’.

The tweet was shared by That Cardiff Girl, who said in response to the tweet ‘I’m not even a veggie and I’m offended by this Tweet’.

People were quick to respond to the tweet.

Replying to That Cardiff Girl, a twitter user called Josie said: ‘Oh my god, this is dreadful.’

While another called Sophie Marie Manners said: ‘So cruel and immoral.’

Others were less scathing of the restaurant, labelling That Cardiff Girl a ‘snowflake’.

The Great Cornholio said: ‘Probably time for you to give up meat if you’re offended by the thought of where it comes from.’

While Gavin said: ‘I’m sorry but you need to get a grip. Meat is produced from animals? It doesn’t come from the supermarket shelf.’

Twenty Nine Park Place had only recently been taken over by the Knife & Fork group which runs a number of others pubs in Cardiff including The Conway in Pontcanna and The Discovery in Lakeside.

Other Twitter users were quick to respond to That Cardiff Girl's complaint. One labelled the restaurant's tweet 'really poor' while another branded it 'dreadful'

Wednesday night is steak night at all Knife & Fork venues.

Customers are asked to choose from a T-bone, sirloin or rib-eye steak.

The meal comes with ‘all the trimmings’ and a pint or glass of house wine.

It costs £15.

The restaurant’s previous owners, Croesy Bards Ltd, closed the bar in January 2018 blaming rising business rates and a debt of more than £200,000.

The refurbished bar and restaurant opened its doors on July 27 but this recent debacle may have upset potential customers.

Apologising for the tweet, a spokesperson from Twenty Nine Park Place said: ‘We would like to sincerely apologise for the misjudgment of this tweet and we recognise the offence it has caused.’
