Police evacuate homes and call in the bomb squad after a WWII grenade is discovered at a house in Stockport

Homes in Stockport have been evacuated after an ‘explosive device’ believed to be a Second World War bomb was found in someone’s house.
Specialist bomb disposal officers are currently at the scene in Gloucester Road, Heald Green.
Experts from Greater Manchester Police were scrambled to the house at 9.20am today. The exact number of houses evacuated has not yet been confirmed.

In a statement, GMP said: ‘Officers are currently responding to reports that an explosive device had been found at a house in Stockport.
‘Around 9.20am this morning, police were called to Gloucester Road in Heald Green.
‘Bomb disposal officers are making their way to the house to make an assessment of the device – believed to be a grenade from World War Two – and nearby houses have been evacuated as a precaution. Updates will follow.’
A Channel 4 documentary team was following the bomb disposal squad as they went about their job today before the incident unfolded.
