Anti-Brexit campaigner Gina Miller sells out £20-a-head event

Anti-Brexit campaigner Gina Miller has sold out a £20-a-head event amid rumours she wants to enter politics full time, it emerged today.

Mrs Miller, who won a Supreme Court challenge over the Government’s Brexit powers, is speaking at a Guardian Live event tonight to promote her new book.

The event at the 950-seat Cadogan Hall in central London has sold out for the ‘In Conversation’ speech with columnist Zoe Williams.

The activist’s ability to draw a paying crowd will fuel rumours she is ready to take on a full-blown political career.

Last week it was claimed she could bid to be the new Liberal Democrat leader under party reforms set to be unveiled by incumbent Sir Vince Cable. 

Sir Vince wants non-MPs to be eligible for the leadership in a desperate attempt to revive his ailing party.

The businesswoman and mother-of-three is already set to make a major Brexit speech at the Liberal Democrat conference next month.

But one party source told the Sun: ‘Only Gina Miller would think it was a good idea for her to be leader of the Lib Dems.’

In a bid to turn his anti-Brexit party into more of a movement, Sir Vince will declare plans for a huge remodel of party membership rules on September 7.

It would mean non-MPs could run in leadership elections.

Last week it was claimed she could bid to be the new Liberal Democrat leader under party reforms set to be unveiled by incumbent Sir Vince Cable 

Yet the rule changes will be seen as a snub to leadership contenders such as Jo Swinson, the deputy leader, Layla Moran and Sir Ed Davey.

Reports of Sir Vince’s much anticipated speech sparked speculation that he is soon set to step down as leader.

Sources reportedly said that the 75-year-old would use his announcement to reveal plans to quit before the next general election scheduled for 2022.

But last night party insiders insisted he is not planning to leave ‘any time soon’.
