Paedophile pleads guilty to child sex offences – but blames bike prang

An ex-yoga teacher has pleaded guilty to a string of child sex offences, but blamed his actions on an earlier motorbike accident.

Jason Daron Mizner, 43, pleaded guilty to a total of 65 charges, including 36 counts of rape, 14 attempted rapes, 13 child exploitation offences and one count of maintaining an unlawful relationship with a child, Brisbane District Court heard today.

Mizner allegedly committed the offences on a three-year-old in the Gold Coast between 2003 and 2005.

The Gold Coast man was arrested at Brisbane International Airport in January last year, 9news reported.

He had served nine years of a 35-year sentence in Thailand, for a second child sex offence, before being deported to Australia.

A local newspaper in Chiang Mai stated that in 2006, a woman – whose name was withheld – reported the rape of her two-year-old daughter by Jason Mizner.

Thai police at the time understood that he had fled Australia for his earlier crimes when he then assaulted his second victim.

The court heard that Mizner had a motorbike injury in the past and suffered a head injury, which his lawyer claims may have caused his ‘inhibitions’ for children.

Mr Mizner’s sentencing was today postponed to October 23 until lawyers receive a full medical report from his doctor who is currently recovering from a heart attack.

Gold Coast Regional Crime Coordinator Detective Superintendent Kerry Johnson said that Mr Mizner’s crimes had a ‘major impact on the life of a child, and our job as police is to protect those children’.
