The incident occurred Thursday at about 12.30am and was caught on camera by a woman passing through the hotel’s 23rd floor Sky Lobby.

In the video, which was posted on Twitter, one panel of the floor-to-ceiling glass window can be seen totally cracked, but still suspended in its frame. The area of the lobby directly below the window is empty.

A second later, a thump can be heard as the bottom portion of the cracked glass shatters. Another thump is heard as a significantly larger portion of the window shatters, too. On both occasions, the glass falls outwards, towards the street.

In various tweets, Crystal Schenkel, who captured the dramatic video, wrote that she and her friends saw the already cracked window as they were exiting the hotel bar early that morning.

When tweeting out the video, Schenkel wrote, ‘Apparently someone threw something’ at the window. She also noted that that she and her friends were exiting the hotel bar when they ‘heard the staff sound upset’ and saw the already-cracked window.

She said later that the shattered glass continued to fall while she traveled down from the 23rd floor to street level.

‘I went down to the valet area to leave and more glass kept falling,’ Schenkel told KSNV.

It turns out that it was the outer pane of glass from a two-pane window that broke, although it is unclear what exactly caused the outer window glass to break.

A hotel spokesperson told the news station in a statement that the incident was being investigated and that no guests or hotel staffers were injured. The hotel also confirmed that the window’s interior, second pane of glass is still in tact.

Aerial footage captured by KTNV — which initially believed the incident occurred on the 37th floor — just hours after the video was tweeted showed visible chunks of the shattered outer pane of glass which had landed on the ledge beneath the hotel window. The intact inner pane is clearly visible.

It Works Glass Services owner Troy Strain, whose crew was evaluating the damaged window and cleaning up its remnants, said that spontaneous breakage occurs from time to time.

He told KSNV that, ‘It could be anything from movement. It could’ve been a bird that hit it.’

The Waldorf Astoria Las Vegas was formerly known as the Mandarin Oriental Las Vegas. Hilton took over the hotel’s operations on August 31. The hotel was first opened in December 2009.
