BREAKING NEWS: At least seven dead after gunman opens fire at Pittsburgh synagogue

At least seven people have died and others are injured after a shooting at a synagogue in Pittsburgh.

The shooting occurred at the Tree of Life Congregation Synagogue in Pittsburgh on Saturday. The first reports emerged shortly before 10am. 

Three people were killed on the main floor and three were killed in the basement as they hid, according to CBS Pittsburgh. 

The gunman, who has not been named, is on the third floor where he has been cornered by police. 

At least two police officers have been injured exchanging fire with him but their conditions are unknown.

Among the eight people shot are two police officers.  Their conditions are not known. 

The gunman was described as wearing jeans and a green jacket. No further details were available.
