A man has been attacked by a shark in the same harbour where two tourists were mauled in a 24 hour span of each other only weeks earlier.
Emergency services were called to the Whitsunday Island’s Cid Harbour in north-east Queensland just after 5:30pm local time on Monday.
A rescue helicopter is en route to Cid Harbour from Mackay, about 150km apart.
The victim, believed to be in his 30s, sustained serious injuries to his leg and wrist.
The arm wound was reportedly sustained while trying to fend off the predator.
A Tweet by Queensland Ambulance confirmed at least one paramedic is on the scene and conducting preliminary treatment for shark bites.

In September, two tourists were attacked in the same body of water within 24 hours of each other, resulting in the culling of four sharks.
On the afternoon of September 19, Tasmanian tourist Justine Barwick was mauled while swimming in Cid Harbour.
Only hours later, a 12-year-old girl was bitten on the leg by a tiger shark in the same beach and rushed to Mackay Base Hospital for immediate treatment.
The 12-year-old girl, Hannah Papps, lost her leg in the attack.
The Queensland government subsequently released a ‘catch and kill’ order on predators in the area, resulting in the culling of four tiger sharks.
