A property that was previously dubbed ‘Australia’s worst house’ is now back on the market after receiving a complete ‘Hampton’s-inspired’ makeover.
The home at 50 Deighton Road in Dutton Park, Queensland, has transformed from a dilapidated three bedroom shack to a modern five bedroom, three bathroom home.
The house was originally bought in 2015 at the shock price of $668,000 – over $150,000 more than the asking price.
Now it is expected to almost double that when it goes for auction March 30 2019, with the median house price for Dutton Park sitting at $1million.

Although the house originally had crumbling walls, broken support structures, holes in the floor, broken windows and was deemed ‘structurally unsafe to enter’, it has always been in a prime location.
According to Ray White Stones Corner new houses are rarely available so close to the city, with this one being two and a half kilometres away from Brisbane’s CBD.
Because the property the owners originally bought was so rundown they had no option but to completely bulldoze the home and start again.
The gamble paid off and now they have a beautiful family home in a highly sought-after location.

Their new spacious property is also the only new home on the street, something which should help them beat the median price.
The atmosphere, the people, the buzz of the tourists around Southbank and the fact it’s only a 15 minute walk from the city was incredibly appealing to the original family that bought it.
‘My son and I were stood outside this completely un-liveable shack, with all its collapsed ceilings and termite infestation, but all we could see was our vision of a beautiful family home in its place,’ house owners Rina and Ryan Zlatkin told Domain.

‘We spent hours and hours with the architect coming up with a Hamptons style home that had a family in mind, that felt comfortable, but also allowed for enough room for both privacy and social time.
‘We designed it ourselves from scratch. We deliberately put the master bedroom on the other side to where our kids would be to give us that virtual barrier, but we also ensured the flow of the house was smooth, with cupboard space aplenty and lots of natural light.’
The family were originally from Melbourne so they wanted to create a home that was stylish, yet complemented the character of the street, offering warmth, style and quality.

‘We believe we have designed the perfect home for a family to enjoy and be proud of, just like we are,’ they said.
‘We put blood, sweat and tears in to building something that makes us feel genuinely warm and happy on the inside. It was worth every minute we spent on it.’

Their youngest son has now been accepted to a university in Melbourne so they’re on the move again, unfortunately meaning they never got to live in this beautiful home.
‘But I’ll always have fond memories of the journey we’ve been on together as a family and I’ll have a special memory of what was meant to be my kitchen and the gorgeous island bench that sits within it,’ Ms Zlatkin said.
‘It gives me great comfort that the home we designed will house a family and we hope it brings them great happiness.’

Ray White Stones Corner sales and market agent Gunther Behrendt said the transformation from ‘Australia’s worst home’ to the Hamptons-inspired character home was incredible.
‘It’s been an amazing journey for the owners and what they’ve been able to create is something to be very proud of,’ he said.
When the home originally went to auction in 2015 more than 120 people spilt on to the street as 25 registered bidders contested for the pre-1946 timber home, which had fallen into disrepair.
It sold for more than $100,000 less than the median price for properties in Dutton Park, which sat at $785,000 on August 17.
