This is the amazing moment a rider who fell off his horse during the middle of a race manages to jump on to a passing motorbike, before catching up with his own steed – and getting back on it.

The clip was filmed in Kavathe-Mahankal, in the district of Sangli, in western India after a group of residents allegedly organised an illegal horse race on the streets.

According to local media, two unnamed men were racing each other on horseback while friends followed on motorbikes.

In the video, one of the horses slips and falls on the tarmac, throwing its rider at the same time.

He hits the ground, narrowly avoiding being run over by a motorbike behind him as he rolls along the road.

Seconds later he gets up again, and runs along before a friend lets him hop up on to his bike.

The pair chase the loose horse down the road until they are neck-and-neck at the front of the race.

The driver grabs the horse, holding it in place next to the motorbike, so that the man can jump back on.

After the incredible maneuver, the man ends up in front of the other competitor and the race continues as normal.
