Thousands of St Patrick’s Day revellers turned Australia green as they embarked on a very long night partying.
The theme for this year’s Sydney parade was ‘Back to Our Roots’ to commemorate the 40th anniversary of St Patrick’s Day Parade, with celebrators enjoying the festivities around the city.
The Opera House turned green for the 10th year running, while other sites such as the Melbourne Star Observation Wheel signed up to celebrate the day.

The traditional Celtic day attracted punters to the CBD wearing over sized hats, green novelty headbands and face paint.
While some people were spotted wearing hues of green head-to-toe complete with matching eye shadow, others opted for quirky leprechaun suits.

There were smiles all around as partygoers enjoyed the activities and festivals available on Sunday for St Patrick’s Day
The Rocks turned into an Irish village for the day, with an Australian Citizenship Ceremony, live music, storytelling, food and craft stalls a feature.
Early starters enjoyed a full Irish breakfast from 7am to 9.30am and followed it up with delicious foods at the food stalls, pop-up bars, and traditional Irish dancing.
As revellers continued to party through the night, some began to look a little worn out.
A man was captured climbing onto a bull but before falling backwards on to a jumping castle surrounding the prop.
Others could also be seen walking around just enjoying the day for what it is.
St Patrick’s Day is a cultural and religious day of celebrations where Irish people celebrate Saint Patrick and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland.

The wet weather did not dampen this group’s mood who headed to a bar and enjoyed a few drinks
