Three men are stabbed and one seriously injured in ‘horrific mass brawl’ after highly charged Celtic-Rangers football match

  • Police cordoned off Albion Street in the Merchant City area around 5.05pm
  • An eyewitness claims they saw a ‘horrific mass brawl’ involving 15 people
  • Another eyewitness said a Celtic fan was ‘in a bad way’ after being stabbed
  • Three men have been taken to hospital where they are in a stable condition 
  • Two men sustained wounds to their faces while a third was stabbed in buttocks 

Three men are in hospital after being stabbed following the highly-charged Celtic-Rangers football match in Glasgow this evening. 

All three have been taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary following the incident in Albion Street in the Merchant City area around 5pm, and are in a stable condition. 

Two of the victims, who are aged 47 and 30, sustained wounds to their faces and the third man, a 29-year-old, was stabbed in the buttocks.

Celtic snatched a 2-1 victory in the Old Firm clash in a game in which there were multiple flash points including Rangers’ Alfredo Morelos being sent off.

A passerby who did not want to be named told the Daily Record they saw one person had been stabbed in shoulder and had a cut on their forehead.

They said: ‘Folk saying someone, young Celtic fan, in bad way. Two separate stabbing incidents I mean.

‘The whole thing apparently started when Rangers fans went into Strathduie (Bar) and stabbed people in the back.

They added that Celtic fans went out to chase them and fight, resulting in more stabbings.

Another witness said: ‘Albion St next to Italian kitchen was where the guy was with a stab wound to the neck, adding ‘two others’ were stabbed in the back in Blackfriars Street.

They said the Celtic and Rangers encountered each other where Albion St and Blackfriars Street meets.

Police have cordoned off Albion Street and have made no arrests relating to the incident.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland told MailOnline: ‘Three men have been taken to hospital for treatment following a large scale disturbance.’
