Tottenham and Manchester City will come to blows in the first leg of their highly-anticipated Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday night.
Pep Guardiola’s side are closing in on an unprecedented quadruple and will be confident of progressing past their Premier League rivals.
Spurs, meanwhile, will be playing in their stunning new stadium for just the second time and they will be desperate to take any sort of advantage into the second leg in Manchester.

Key battles
To have a real chance of progressing Tottenham have to keep a clean sheet on home soil. In order to do so their defence must improve on their recent performance at Anfield, where the hosts’ full backs were allowed to run riot for the first 30 minutes.
Sergio Aguero is expected to be fit to play up front for City and Spurs’ three central defenders (Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez) have to shut him down.
Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli also have huge roles to play up against Fernandinho. The Brazilian keeps City ticking over, forms the base of most of their attacking moves and is the defensive shield.

Kieran Trippier has been underwhelming after a memorable summer with England at the World Cup. He faces perhaps the toughest task of the evening in shutting down Raheem Sterling. The winger is in contention for the PFA Player of the Year award after scoring 19 goals and adding 16 assists in all competitions.
He also has five goals and three assists in 11 appearances against Spurs and Trippier will need to be on top form to keep his international colleague quiet.
Weak links
Hugo Lloris owes his team a huge performance after his calamitous antics against Liverpool. The Frenchman cost his team once again on a big occasion and Spurs cannot afford another error against City.
Benjamin Mendy, meanwhile, played well against Brighton in City’s FA Cup semi-final on Saturday and it remains to be seen whether he will be used again or given more time to recover.
Aymeric Laporte is therefore expected to play at left-back and he struggled there at the same stage of the competition last season against Liverpool when the Reds burst into a three-goal lead.
The Frenchman has been outstanding all season but Spurs will be hoping they can expose any fragility at full back.

Managers
Pep Guardiola has been able to get the better of Pochettino more often than not in the 14 matches they have played against each other. The City boss has won eight, while Pochettino has two wins and they have shared four draws.
Guardiola also has previous experience in Europe to call upon following his two successful European campaigns with Barcelona in 2008/09 and 2010/11.
However, his failure to win the trophy at Bayern Munich was a major blemish on his record in Germany and another unsuccessful European season will leave a bitter taste in his mouth.

Nobody expects Tottenham to win the tournament from here but eliminating City would propel them into contenders and a semi-final against either Ajax or Juventus is winnable.
Pochettino remains trophy-less at White Hart Lane but that should not tarnish the exceptional work he is doing.
How they got here?
A woeful start to the group stage left Spurs staring elimination in the face. They picked up just one point from their first three games and then needed a late winner to see of PSV Eindhoven at Wembley to spark a run to the knockout stages.
A 1-0 win over Inter Milan followed and then the most spectacular of draws in the Nou Camp saw them edge the Italians into second place. Spurs were comfortable winners over an impressive Dortmund team in the last-16, beating them 3-0 at Wembley before controlling the reverse fixture as Harry Kane struck to seal a 1-0 win last week.

City were stunned in the opening group game when they lost in Lyon but recovered to win four of their remaining five group games to finish top of the standings.
They were then handed one of the easier draws in the last-16 and made light work of Bundesliga side Schalke, winning the second leg 7-0 to finish with an aggregate score of 10-2.
Atmosphere
Spurs won their first match at their exquisite new stadium against Crystal Palace on an emotional evening but defeating City would make it feel like home for sure.
The facility has been carefully designed to heighten the acoustics and maximise atmosphere, rather than let it fade away like we are accustomed to seeing in modern stadia.

Modeled on the famous ‘Yellow Wall’ at Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park, the south stand is comprised of a single tier and is able to hold 17,500 Spurs fans out of the total capacity of 61,559.
City were left stunned by a chaotic atmosphere at Anfield last season and they must deal with that better and overcome the early storm.
