Son Heung-min was a constant threat and curled a sublime strike into the top corner

Manchester City (4-3-3)

Ederson – 6

Probably should have done better with Tottenham’s equaliser but recovered well thereafter.

Kyle Walker – 6

Gallant running down the right and offered a different dimension going forward. A little lapse sometimes.

Vincent Kompany – 7

City conceded three but Kompany barely put a foot wrong and remained unflustered throughout.

Aymeric Laporte – 4

Will have nightmares about the two early Tottenham goals and lost Fernando Llorente for the third.

Benjamin Mendy – 6

Huge ask to play at this intensity as he continues his comeback. Not perfect but a positive performance.

Kevin De Bruyne – 9.5

Man for the big occasion. Three assists. Fired up and provided moments of exceptional quality.

Ilkay Gundogan –  5.5

Really struggled as the game wore on, becoming increasingly desperate and consistently taking the wrong option.

David Silva – 6

The 33-year-old is struggling for form at the moment. Others flourished around him in midfield.

Raheem Sterling capped another superb performance with two clinical strikes for City

Bernardo Silva – 8

Probably sprinted back to his flat afterwards. Never stopped running and gave Danny Rose a torrid time.

Sergio Aguero – 8.5

Tenacious with the ball and dropped deep to link up play. Then that trademark finish in a flash.

Raheem Sterling – 9

Made for the big games these days. Superb all night. Dead-eyed in front of goal. A phenomenon.

Subs

Fernandinho (for Silva, 63) – 6

Leroy Sane (for Mendy, 84)

Subs not used: Muric, Stones, Mahrez, Otamendi, Jesus

Manager: Pep Guardiola – 7

City were magnificent on the night but Guardiola was ultimately let down by horrendous individual mistakes and rotten luck with the VAR system.

Tottenham (4-4-2 diamond)

Hugo Lloris – 5.5

Lacked a little bit of communication with the back four and struggled to command his box.

Kieran Trippier – 5

Will want to forget his role in Sterling’s two first-half goals from a positional sense. Never looked comfortable.

Toby Alderweireld – 6.5

Stayed tight to Aguero and stood his ground well, with one big block just before half-time.

Jan Vertonghen – 6

Often the defender to complete that crucial clearance or win an important header.

Kieran Trippier never looked comfortable and was caught out in Sterling's two first-half goals

Danny Rose – 6

Attempting to shepherd a possessed Bernardo was always going to be a thankless task.

Victor Wanyama – 6

Found the movement of City’s attacking contingent difficult to handle. Not the first to suffer here.

Moussa Sissoko – 7

Gave Spurs plenty of energy in midfield before injury forced him off 41 minutes in.

Dele Alli – 6

Good decision-making in the final third yet the game passed him by defensively on his return.

Lucas Moura was industrious when dropping off the front and caused City real problems

Christian Eriksen – 8

Lovely use of the ball and pulled the strings for Spurs going forward. Some fine touches.

Lucas Moura – 8

Industrious when dropping off the front and caused City real problems as to who should pick him up.

Son Heung-min – 8.5

Such a goalscoring threat and his second was sublime, right into Ederson’s top corner.

Subs

Fernando Llorente (for Sissoko, 41) – 6.5

Ben Davies (for Moura, 82)

Davinson Sanchez (for Rose, 90)

Subs not used: Gazzaniga, Foyth, Walker-Peters, Skipp

Manager: Mauricio Pochettino – 8

Courageous substitution when introducing Llorente as Sissoko came off injured. Knew they would require at least one more goal and his bravery paid off handsomely.

Ref: Cuneyt Cakir (Turkey) – 5

Tried to let them game flow but lost control late on after Tottenham’s third goal.
