  • He slipped up when asked who he thinks will make the Champions League final
  • It was the cause of much amusement for his BT Sport colleagues

Michael Owen accidentally sparked a hilarious moment in the BT Sport studios on Saturday while talking about the Champions League.

Appearing on Saturday Morning Savage, Owen was asked a series of quickfire questions for the ‘Gone in 60 seconds’ feature.

The former Liverpool man was asked who he thinks will be in the Champions League final and quickly answered with ‘Barcelona’ before contemplating who their opponents could be.

But instead of answering with one of Ajax and Tottenham, who meet in the other semi-final, he instead said ‘Liverpool’ – Barcelona’s current semi-final opponents.

Owen immediately realised his error but it didn’t save him from receiving some stick from his fellow guests, particularly Chris Sutton who was roaring with laughter at Owen’s verdict.

Owen’s former club Liverpool trail Barcelona 3-0 from the first leg and their task of overturning that deficit has been made harder with the news Roberto Firmino will miss the game due to a groin issue.

There also doubts over Mohamed Salah after he was taken off with a head injury after a collision with Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka in Liverpool’s 3-2 win on Saturday.

Tottenham, meanwhile, trail Ajax 1-0 from their first leg in London.

Liverpool play Barcelona in their return leg at Anfield on Tuesday before Tottenham meet Ajax in Holland on Wednesday.
