Chaos as McDonald’s restaurants are inundated with free burger requests – with one busy city branch forced to refuse service

  • The chaos comes as McDonald’s announced 250,000 of free Quarter Pounders 

Chaotic scenes have unfolded in McDonald’s restaurants as customers flood stores for free Quarter Pounders on International Burger Day. 

Video from a McDonald’s on George Street in the heart of Sydney shows staff members pumping out orders as fast as possible as crowds queue up. 

Another branch at Wynyard station was even forced to close off their self-service screens to control the lunch rush crowds.

The chaos comes as McDonald’s announced the fast-food giant was giving away 250,000 free burgers to customers on Tuesday. 

Customers can redeem their free Quarter Pounder through the mymacca’s app in the My Rewards section.  

But customers will only be eligible for one free burger each. 

A manager at Wynyard Station McDonald’s was forced to tell the public staff were unable to serve anymore customers. 

He is seen confronting the crowds and pleading for them to turn away. 

Numerous staff members are seen frantically waving order receipts at customers in a bid to hand out requests quickly.

Lines ran from one end of the McDonald’s George Street in Town Hall to the other. 

One Twitter user, who filmed the chaos wrote: ‘Be nice to your local @maccas team member as people go to score free Quarter Pounders today. Absolute scenes in Sydney – at McDonald’s.’ 

The craze comes days after McDonald’s announced all their beef patties will be cooked for exactly 40 seconds to ensure the meat is the ‘juiciest patty our customers have had’.
