Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita ruled out of Champions League final

Liverpool will be without Naby Keita for this weekend’s Champions League final against Tottenham after the midfielder was ruled out through injury.

Keita missed the final weeks of the Premier League season after picking up an adductor injury in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final against Barcelona.

The central midfielder travelled with his team-mates to Marbella for a warm-weather training camp ahead of the final. But Jurgen Klopp confirmed on Tuesday that he would not be fit in time to feature in Madrid. 

‘There’s no chance for Naby, but he’s progressing well,’ Klopp said. 

But the Reds have been boosted by the news that forward Roberto Firmino will return for the Wanda Metropolitano showdown.

The Brazilian has not featured in his side’s past four matches after suffering a groin injury.

He has been training alongside the rest of Klopp’s squad in recent days, however, and it’s now been confirmed that he will be fit to play.

‘Bobby was part of training last week and will be a part again tomorrow and he’s looking good so he will be part of the final I’m sure.’ 

On recovering from two near misses as a Champions League manager to try and make it third time lucky this weekend, Klopp said: ‘I don’t like to blame my other team – I love them all – but I’ve never been part of a final with a better team, that’s true.

‘Our boys mix potential with attitude in the best way I’ve ever seen. After Barcelona (the 4-0 semi-final comeback at Anfield), nobody believes more in this team than the team itself. We wanted it really badly.’
