Australian Open women’s champion Naomi Osaka has shocked the tennis world after announcing she has split from her coach.

The development comes just over a fortnight since world number one Osaka won her second career grand slam at Melbourne Park on Australia Day.

‘Hey everyone, I will no longer be working together with Sascha (Bajin),’ Osaka tweeted.

‘I thank him for his work and wish him all the best in the future.’

Bajin, the 2018 WTA Coach of the Year, publicly responded, thanking the 21-year-old via his personal Twitter account.

‘I wish you nothing but the best as well,’ he responded. ‘What a ride that was. Thank you for letting me be part of this.’

Osaka hired Bajin ahead of the 2018 WTA season and the pair didn’t take long to click on court.

The Japanese star beat red-hot favourite Serena Williams in straight sets to claim her maiden grand slam title last September at the US Open.

Bajin won’t take long to attract new suitors – he has previously worked with Williams, Victoria Azarenka and Caroline Wozniacki.

Osaka is the first player from Asia to grace the top of the women’s or men’s world tennis rankings.

She was born in Japan – her mother is Japanese, her father is Haitian – before moving to the United States when she was three years old.
