Men who ‘bashed Victoria’s top transport safety cop after being kicked off a train’ are arrested

Two men have been arrested over the alleged assault of top police officer near a train station in Melbourne.
Chris O’Neill, Assistant Commissioner of Transit and Public Safety, was rushed to hospital after being kicked and punched in the head and chest near Heyington Railway Station in Toorak around 5.30pm on Saturday.
He remains in hospital where he is being treated for serious head injuries. It is understood he will undergo tests as he has been unable to move his upper torso.
An 18-year-old was arrested near Chadstone Road, Malvern East about 3.45pm on Monday.
A 20-year-old man was arrested earlier in the day.
Both men are currently in custody and assisting police with their enquiries.
Assistant Commissioner Bob Hill told 3AW passengers had complained as the pair had been vomiting and urinating onboard.

He said the pair had allegedly come into contact with Mr O’Neill, who was off-duty at the time, once they left the station.
Inspector Stephen O’Donnell said the men appeared to be ‘looking to cause trouble’.
Health Minister Jenny Mikakos has shared her disgust over the unprovoked attack.
‘It is absolutely appalling that we’ve had someone who was just going about their day in an unprovoked attack, attacked and assaulted and injured,’ she told The Age.
‘My thoughts are with Chris O’Neill and his family as as he’s recovering from this senseless attack.
