Bars across Washington opened their doors early on Wednesday to host watch parties for Robert Mueller’s highly-anticipated congressional testimony on the Russia investigation.
Just as the special counsel was sworn in before members of the House Judiciary and Intelligence Committees at 8.30am, DC drinking establishments began arming politically-savvy patrons with beverages to toast the blockbuster hearing.
Viewers were encouraged to pace themselves as the lengthy hearing would allow ample time for refills.

Duffy’s Irish Pub
Duffy’s opened at 8am with a full menu and drink specials – including a ‘Bloody Mueller’.
The hearing was broadcasted on the pub’s eight flat-screen TVs and ‘Stadium Sound System’.
A Facebook page for the watch party encouraged viewers to don their best ‘festive attire’.

Union Pub
Union Pub kicked things off at 9am – the earliest it legally could given its operating license.
All TVs in the pub showed the hearing with sound.
The full bar and kitchen opened early, featuring $6 ‘Moscow Muellers’, $4 select rye whiskeys and lager drafts and $4.45 rail drinks.
Patrons were promised a free round of drinks every time Trump tweeted about James Comey during the testimony.
Capitol Hill – 201 Massachusetts Ave NE
Shaw’s Tavern
Shaw’s opened at 8am Wednesday and tuned all of its TVs across two floors in to the hearing, cranking the sound all the way up.
The tavern offered breakfast and lunch specials for patrons bracing for a long day of drinking. Staff began taking drink orders promptly at 11am.
Le Droit Park – 520 Florida Ave NW
Union Pub kicked things off at 9am, tuning all TVs to the hearing and cranking up the volume
Hawk ‘n’ Dove
This popular watering hole on Capitol Hill opened at 8.30am and served brunch until 3pm.
Bartenders whipped up special ‘Bloody Muellers’ in honor of the congressional testimony.
Capitol Hill – 329 Pennsylvania Ave SE
The Midlands
The Midlands opened at 8.30am with traditional breakfast libations of nitro cold brew coffee, juice and hibiscus tea.
The first 70 people to buy house bottle or canned beers were given custom coozies with the words: ‘It’s Mueller Time.’
Customers were invited to bring their own outside food until the Midlands kitchen opened at 2pm.
A post on the bar’s Facebook page stated: ‘Wifi will be going strong! Just like our patriotism!’
