83-year-old grandma serves as flower ‘girl’ at her granddaughter’s wedding

83-year-old grandma proves that ‘age doesn’t matter’ by serving as flower girl at her granddaughter’s wedding (and almost steals the show with her VERY enthusiastic rose petal toss)

  • Brenna Kleman, 27, married her husband Brock Kendall in April
  • Brenna, a nurse, asked her grandmother to be the flower girl after learning that one of her patients also did it for her granddaughter
  • The proud grandmother gleefully jumped up and tossed petals as she walked down the aisle
  • Brenna says she hopes her marriage is like that of her grandma and grandpa, who have been married for 63 years

Most flower girls tend to fall between the ages of two and six or seven — but at once Kansas wedding, the ‘girl’ tossing flowers down the aisle was a young 83 years of age.

Brenna Kleman, 27, married her husband Brock Kendall in April, and made the unconventional choice of asking her octogenarian grandmother to serve as flower girl.

‘Grandma’ — as she would only identify herself to Good Morning America — was happy to oblige, saying: ‘I felt excited and blessed to be there.’

Totally up for it! 'Grandma' — as she would only identify herself to Good Morning America — was happy to oblige, saying: 'I felt excited and blessed to be there'

A registered nurse, Brenna said one of her patients — who herself had been a flower girl at her granddaughter’s wedding — gave her the idea.

When she asked her grandmother to fulfill the role, she was only too happy to oblige.

And the sweet idea certainly made for some fun moments during the ceremony, as well as some wonderful photos.

‘The whole congregation just could not stop smiling when they watched Grandma walk down the aisle. She got a little teary eyed … she said she wanted to make sure that she did everything OK for my day,’ said Brenna.

Wedding photographer Thomas Felts managed to capture Grandma in her maroon dress jumping into the air as she gleeful threw pink rose petals up around her.

'Age doesn't matter,' said the groom. 'Grandma's 83 years young and in the picture, she's off the ground jumping and throwing flowers'

The older woman, who carried the petals in a small white basket and smiled at the guests once it was empty, certainly made for a special experience.

‘Age doesn’t matter,’ said the groom. ‘Grandma’s 83 years young and in the picture, she’s off the ground jumping and throwing flowers.’

Grandma has been married to Brenna’s grandfather for 63 years, and the newlywed said she hopes her own marriage is just like theirs.

Brenna’s grandfather has been sick for a while, but grandma’s positive attitude keeps the on top.

Even though they can’t dance together like they used to, Grandma will bring Grandpa — and his walker — to dancing venues so he can watch her in action.
