The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have revealed they’re supporting charity Lion Guardians via their Instagram account.

In the social media post uploaded on Saturday, Prince Harry, 34, and wife Meghan, 38, posted a photograph of a Lion wading through the grass alongside the caption:

‘Today is #WorldLionDay and this month we asked you to suggest organisations that you feel are Forces For Change.’

They went on to explain that they are now following the organisation, which aims to encourage a sustainable coexistence between people and lions across Africa.

The royal couple also encouraged their followers to sponsor a lion guardian or to get involved in conservation work.

Prince Harry, 34, and wife Meghan, 38, took to the Sussex Royal Instagram account on Saturday to champion organisation Lion Guardians on World Lion Day. The royals attend ‘The Lion King’ film premiere in London on  14 Jul 2019

The post, which has since been liked 246k times and is accompanied by six wildlife conservation pictures, explained: ‘Working closely to understand the cultural context on the ground in Africa, this organisation has helped to transform former lion killers into skilled trackers and in 2018 they were responsible for stopping 24 lion hunts.’

‘Lion Guardians understand the importance of the connection between animals and the community and work tirelessly to create a harmonious relationship on the ground between man and lion, community and wildlife.’

Prince Harry and Meghan added that they are ‘honouring’ the work the organisation does on World Lion Day and ‘every day’ in a bid to protect the ‘beautiful species’ – before adding details on how others can sponsor a lion guardian or get involved.

The royal couple have taken a deep interest in wildlife in recent months – with Buckingham Palace confirming back in June they will travel to South Africa on a royal tour this autumn – with baby Archie.

The Duke of Sussex previously discussed his '20 year connection' with Angola and Botswana in a touching Instagram message back in June. He posted the words alongside a fundraising event he proudly co-hosted for National Geographic's Into The Okavango last week (pictured)

Officials previously revealed that Prince Harry will make additional visits to three other African countries as part of the same trip.

Travelling alone, the father-of-one will visit Angola, Malawi and Botswana, while it is believed that baby Archie, who will be around five months old by then, will stay in South Africa with Meghan, while his father carries out royal duties elsewhere.

Sussex Royal also confirmed that the little boy will join his parents on the tour, writing on a post of Harry and Meghan: ‘This will be their first official tour as a family!’.

It’s a place close to the couple’s heart as following their wedding on May 2018, the duke and duchess honeymooned in East Africa.
