‘The conclusion is that I’m probably the best in the world and in history!’: Ex-Arsenal keeper Wojciech Szczesny jokes he is football’s No.1 stopper
Former Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has come up with a comical piece of logic which determines he is, in fact, the best stopper ‘in the world and in history.’
Szczesny was reflecting this week on the recent UEFA Player of the Year awards, in which the footballing body awarded the best players in each position on the pitch.
Alisson Becker, former team-mate of Szczesny at Roma, was labelled top goalkeeper on the continent following his Champions League winning campaign with Liverpool.

Speaking to Polish publication Przeglad Spotowy while on duty with the national team, Szczesny discussed the time he managed to keep Alisson out of the Roma squad.
‘Recently I said that when I was playing for Roma, currently the best goalkeeper in the world, Alisson, was on the bench.’
The ex-Arsenal man then went on to compare it to his current situation at Juventus, where legendary stopper Gianluigi Buffon is on the bench following his return, before turning it into a playful joke.
‘Now at Juve my substitute is one of the greatest players in history.
‘Normal,’ remarked Szczesny when asked how it feels to bench Buffon. ‘I’m kidding, of course.
