Chong came on as a substitute in United’s 3-1 away win to PSG in the Champions League
Chong’s development has accelerated at a rapid pace since winning the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year in May 2018. He made his competitive debut for United in a 2-0 FA Cup win over Reading, and made his Premier League debut in March 2019 in United’s 3-2 win over Southampton.
However, it is believed that the Dutch startlet would like to see more game time, having made just four appearances to date. A return to his home country has been mooted, with PSV and former club Feyenoord showing an interest.
Chong has said his future remains in Manchester, though.
He told Voetbal Primeur of any contract discussions: ‘Of course we are talking, but it’s still too early to say anything about it.
‘The season is still long and we will see what happens.
‘There are a lot of competitions coming up and I will focus on that.’
Chong revealed the supportive message from Solskjaer that convinced him to stay
Chong also revealed the key message of support that United boss Solskjaer has given him, that convinced him to fight for his place.
‘Ole tells me to keep working hard and my chances will come,’ he said.
‘That’s nice to hear. There are a few players who left and I’m climbing up the pecking order.
‘It’s always nice to come back to the Netherlands, but in the end I have to do what I find best for myself.
‘That’s why I decided to stay.’
