Georginio Wijnaldum insists Liverpool have their eyes set on another Champions League final in Istanbul as Anfield prepares for the return of European football for the first time this season.
Wijnaldum scored twice as Jurgen Klopp’s team produced a heroic comeback to beat Barcelona 4-0 in the second-leg of last season’s semi-final on their way to winning the trophy for the sixth time.
‘That is a great memory but we have to look forward to making it even greater and reach the final again,’ said the Dutch midfielder ahead of Wednesday’s tie against RB Salzburg.

‘We are not looking back but looking forward. It gives us confidence, of course, but this is a totally different Champions League campaign. Different games, different situations, different teams, we just have to make sure we’re ready.
‘What happened in the past is always in the past. We created great memories for ourselves but it is not something we should think about.’
Klopp’s team have won their last 16 games in the Premier League but were beaten at Napoli in their opening tie in Champions League Group E.
The final in May will be in Istanbul where Liverpool won the title on penalties in 2005.
