Two quickfire goals in the space of five minutes through Takumi Minamino and substitute Erling Braut Haaland remarkably levelled the scoring briefly at the home of the Champions League holders.

Anfield was completely stunned after easing into a commanding 3-0 lead on Wednesday but Salzburg’s momentum was short-lived after Mohamed Salah added a fourth for Liverpool nine minutes after being pegged back.

Jurgen Klopp’s side held on for all three points to get their Champions League campaign up and running following their opening day defeat away at Napoli.

Salah’s double and first-half goals from Sadio Mane and Andy Robertson just about did the job for the Reds on Merseyside.
