A blind man has been left fighting for his life after falling onto the tracks of a Scottish subway with his guide dog.

Reports say the 32-year-old, who has not been identified, was with his Labrador pup when he was launched 6ft on to the Bridge Street Station line in Glasgow, Scotland, before noon on Thursday.

British Transport Police, the Scottish Fire and Rescue, and paramedics were called to the scene before he was Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.

The Inner and Outer subway circles were closed after the ‘passenger-related’ incident, Glasgow Subway tweeted.

His furry companion managed to jump back on to the platform but is ‘distressed’ and being looked after by Guide Dogs UK while the man is recovering from his ‘life-threatening’ injuries.

A Guide Dogs UK spokesman said their ‘immediate thoughts and concerns are for the welfare of our guide dog owner’ and the beloved pet.

They are ‘supporting the dog owner’s family’ and had the Labrador examined by a vet before taking it in for the short-term.
