Queensland traffic nightmare for vacationers stuck in a 30KM traffic jam

Back to reality: Traffic nightmare for vacationers stuck in a 30KM traffic jam as families return home from long weekends away

  • Drivers are stuck in 30km of gridlocked traffic along Queensland’s M1
  • Traffic is at a standstill between the suburbs of Banora Point and Merrimac
  • No accidents reported on Queensland’s Pacific Motorway at this stage

Motorists are facing commuter chaos as the public holiday weekend draws to a close.

Traffic is gridlock between Banora Point and Merrimac with delays extending up to 30km, the Gold Coast Bulletin reported.

A combination of roadworks and congestion is the reason for the mass delays.

On the Pacific Motorway between Cobaki Lakes and Mudgeeraba all lanes were effected by the delays at 1.30pm AEDT and motorists were urged to show patience

On the Pacific Motorway between Cobaki Lakes and Mudgeeraba all lanes were affected by the delays at 1.30pm AEDT.

‘Long delays expected. Motorists are urged to show patience,’ a traffic update read.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads did not specify how long the delays would be.

Similar scenes were seen at Exit 85 towards Palm Beach.

No accidents have been reported to Queensland Police at this stage.

RACQ also warned that motorists on the Bruce Highway should expect delays as they made their way home.

‘Bruce Highway’s already building up southbound through Beerburrum,’ they tweeted.

The Gold Coast Highway is also experiencing congestion.

In New South Wales, also on the M1, those headed south have been told their trip may take longer than expected.

As of 12pm there were delays of 30 minutes, according to the NSW Transport Management Centre.

The delays at Warnervale were due to a car crash, and motorists were urged to exercise caution.

The crash has been cleared but drivers have been asked ‘to allow plenty of extra time as there is heavy holiday traffic’.
