A homeless man has left a heartbreaking message to the world after suddenly vanishing from the doorway where he was sleeping rough.

In the mysterious neatly-written confession, the Australian apologised for hurting those around him and for being at ‘war with myself’.

The message has now been shared online by a concerned passer-by in an attempt to help the rough sleeper be heard.

‘I never intended to hurt those around me when I was hurting,’ the message shared on the r/Australia Reddit read.

‘I was at war with myself and sadly many I loved became casualties. I never intended to damage anyone while I was broken.’

The message ended with the words ‘I’m sorry’ written in quote marks and capital letters.

Many were philosophical – with one noting it wouldn’t take many unfortunate circumstances for the rest of us to end up like the homeless man. 

‘What a heartbreaking thing to read. I hope he found peace,’ one person wrote.
