Teacher accused of having a lengthy affair with high school student

A teacher from Indiana has been charged with sex crimes for allegedly carrying on a prolonged sexual relationship with a 17-year-old male high school student. 

Gina Richey, 35, was arrested on Wednesday in Terre Haute and charged with two felony counts of child seduction – child care worker in sexual intercourse or other sexual conduct with a child. 

According to a statement from the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office, Richey was teaching at Rosedale Elementary School when she began having sex with a male student from Riverton Parke High School. 

The Parke County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation into Richey’s alleged misconduct in September, but the case was later transferred to Vigo County, where the woman’s encounters with the teenage boy were alleged to have taken place. 

The sheriff’s office said the tryst between the teacher and the student ‘had been going on for a length of time.’ The statement did not include a timeline of the alleged relationship.    

Richey was teaching at Rosedale Elementary School when she began having sex with a teen. She later resigned her teaching job

Richey was released from jail after posting $24,950 bond. She made her initial court appearance on Thursday morning.  

Earlier this month, the Southwest Parke Community School Corporation released a statement saying a teacher, who was not named at the time, has resigned over alleged wrongdoing. 

The corporation also said it fired a teacher’s assistant for failing to report the allegations against the teacher.
