Widow of Queensland dad and teacher killed in car accident is ‘dreading’ life alone

A new mother whose husband was killed in a car crash has paid tribute to him and says she is ‘dreading’ facing life and parenthood alone.   

Yohei Suzuki, 42, died on Friday when his Nissan X-Trail crashed into a parked semi trailer in Nambour, Queensland.

The beloved Japanese teacher at Nambour State College welcomed his first child, Hugo, just 10 months ago and was looking forward to raising a family.

As Mr Suzuki was the sole breadwinner, his wife Liz is now unsure how she will survive, and told friends and family she ‘dreads facing life without a soulmate’. 

‘I’m shattered and there is a gaping hole in my heart,’ she said in a Facebook tribute to her late husband. 

Hundreds of comments from Mr Suzuki’s students and colleagues flooded the post, as well as a GoFundMe appeal set up to support the family.

Past and present students thanked the ‘dedicated and much loved’ teacher for his service at the school over the last 12 years.

Mrs Suzuki said she knows she has to be strong for Hugo, and is inspired by her husband, who was ‘the most incredible father, husband and man.’

‘Life just isn’t fair,’ she said. 

Mr Suzuki’s mother-in-law also posted a touching tribute online after she learned of his death.

‘I am numb and totally lost right now,’ she said. 

Watching her daughter lose her husband has caused a pain ‘only a mother could understand.’

‘I see her beautiful glow draining from her but I also see how strong she is to deal with what lies ahead for her and the future of our beautiful and happy little Hugo,’ she said. 

The GoFundMe appeal has raised more than $15,000 for the family in just three days.
